“To interpret Dionysus, also known as Bacchus, god of wine, without this becoming a cliché, is not an easy task. However, removing him from his symbols would completely mischaracterize him and his characteristics of an oppressed and persecuted god.
Here we have a psychological decanter, Dionysus, god of wine, son of the immortal Zeus and mortal lover Semele, who translates the most repressed questions of the human psyche: excess, addiction, depression, unrestrained sexuality, persecution, gender repression, homosexuality, transformism, having children out of marriage, and other social issues always considered not sane and contradictory to the status quo.
The piece has a studied imbalance, hanging, intoxicated, with accentuated and seductive curves. Is it the swollen belly from drinking or Semele’s interrupted pregnancy?
A part of the story is engraved in the piece in bas-relief, creating, I hope, a natural curiosity in the viewer to learn more about this ancient god who will bring insights into the movements that are openly convulsing in our society.”
