People here have asked me what meaning or motivation each work brings. I started this series many years ago to divert my mind from worries, a kind of catharsis. The concerns, feelings, experiences, and the world’s events were all there, so I made them participate as figurative elements of the creation.
A few words about the art you see on this post: the ballerina is inside and outside the cage, symbolising duality. Her lightness is observed in the middle of the dance, within the confines of a golden prison. The cage’s decorated bars remind us of the limitations imposed, a golden prison of comfort and security that simultaneously protects and restricts.
The perched and watchful crow threatens freedom beyond its ornate enclosure. It is a stark reminder of the vastness of the world and the unsubdued life she longs for. The chandeliers and flowers, with their inherent beauty and fragility, contrast with the cage’s reality, illuminating the dancer’s internal conflict between the placidity of safety and the attraction of adventure.
This subtle interplay of symbols invites reflection on the paradox of freedom: the invisible chains of security versus the vulnerable courage needed to live genuinely. The ballerina’s balanced dance on the edge of the cage metaphorically represents the human condition, a delicate balance between the known and the unknown, comfort and fulfilment.
